F Class can be loosely described as Benchrest off the ground. It is a form of competition officially sanctioned by the NRAA (National Rifle Assoc of Australia). Events are conducted on full bore target shooting ranges all around the country from local club level to State level and National level (Queens Prize shoots).
The distances matches are shot from are a minimum of 300 yards to a maximum of 1,000 yards although some ranges do not go beyond 600. There are 2 rifle categories, F Standard which is restricted to the 308w or 223r cartridge and a 1kg trigger and F Open which is unrestricted on calibre generally. Matches are usually combined with regular Full Bore events and the F Open target used is the standard target with different scoring. The F Open target is different and more difficult. Both are score targets and group sizes are not recognized.
Rifles are fired from regular front benchrests and rear sandbags but also allowed in these events only is the use of special bi-pods. These events offer an alternative for regular Full Bore shooters having trouble with eyesight on their apertures and move to an event with telescopes.
